A New Unit Survey assesses whether a Facility can offer New Units as part of their Intern Education and Training Program. It looks at how Facility wide aspects, though in much less detail than in a Full Survey Visit. A New Unit Survey focuses on aspects which are specific to proposed new Unit, including term content, assessment, orientation and supervision.
A New Unit Survey Visit takes between a couple of hours and a day depending on the number of Units to be accredited as part of that Visit. However, the process for preparing for a New Unit Survey takes significantly longer as PMCQ needs to arrange a Survey Team and allow Survey Team Members sufficient time to read the documentation. Facilities should submit a Form 5 (New Unit Survey) at least 12 weeks before the proposed survey date.
A New Unit Survey is done any time a Facility would like to add Units for Intern Education. However, there is a limit to how many Surveys can be done in any one year. Facilities are advised to plan ahead, allowing sufficient time to ensure that a New Unit Survey can organise, undertaken and reported on before the New Units are required. Where possible, New Unit requests should be included in a Full Survey. Requests for New Unit Surveys are not usually considered until the next year if they are received by PMCQ after 1 October in any given year.
