Accreditation is a core function of PMCQ. It is a quality assurance process that is performed to ensure interns receive appropriate education and training during their internship and are able to obtain general registration with the Medical Board of Australia (MBA).
All facilities that employ interns, including hospitals, clinics and private settings, must be accredited for intern training and must place interns in accredited training positions.
PMCQ has developed a set of Accreditation Standards, policies and processes that underpin the accreditation program and its implementation in Queensland. Our standards, policies and processes are aligned with the national Prevocational Medical Framework (PMAF), which came into effect by national consensus in July 2010.
PMCQ forms accreditation recommendations using a survey process based on the degree to which a training facility or training position meets the established Accreditation Standards. These recommendations are reported to the MBA to assist in the determination of intern accreditation status.
Accreditation is a supportive quality improvement process. Recommendation are designed to support training faciliites to continue their quality improvement activities.
PMCQ has developed the Intern Accreditation Manual to assist intern training facilities to understand the accreditation program. This manual includes:
